Deanna Baker, Head of School
I have been working with children for 30+ years. I have worked as a teacher in elementary, art, high school, and early childhood. As the School Age Director of Salvation Army in Raleigh, I was instrumental in the success of the REACH program which provides academic assistance to at-risk children. As a liaison for at-risk youth, I designed after school programs, coached parents and scout troop leaders, provided travel and sports opportunities to students, in addition to teaching in the classroom.
At the preschool level, I have taught at all age levels, helped open several daycares, and assisted with getting struggling daycares back on track, creating curriculum, training teachers, and bringing them up to NAEYC requirements, bringing some centers to 5-star rating. As YMCA Director in NJ, I worked as Preschool Curriculum Writer writing, designing, and coordinating preschool enrichment programs.
I hold degrees in Elementary Education and Mathematics, Early Childhood Administration, and am trained in Conscious Discipline. I am proud to serve International Preschool of Raleigh as the Head of School. I was drawn to IPR because of our shared educational philosophy that all children will learn if you teach them. I truly believe that all children have a specific purpose and hold the potential to learn what we put before them when provided the right environment, encouragement, and nurturing. I seek to further cultivate such an environment and attitude throughout the staff here at IPR. Outside of school, I enjoy reading, arts and crafts, and volunteering with youth, elderly and food pantries.
